About Neck Pain: Neck pain, much like back pain, is very common and is often seen and treated in my office. Second only to low back pain, neck pain and headaches are the most common conditions treated in my office. Neck pain has many causes, some which aren’t very serious such as repetitive sprain and strain injuries. However neck pain could be something a lot more serious such as spinal infections. I have been practicing for many years and thankfully most causes are easily treatable as well as preventable. I have noticed a rise in neck pain cases in recent years as many patients come to my office with neck pain due to working on computers all day at work. Than they go home and do the same on their home computer. Texting on the phone can also cause neck pain. Common causes of neck pain include sprains and strains, sports injury, car accident injury (whiplash injury), work accidents, poor posture, and degenerative disc disease.

Does chiropractic help with neck pain?
Yes. Chiropractic helps with almost all spine related aches and pains. Often time’s neck pain can be prevented such as by gently re-aligning vertebrae that are not lined up as they should be in the cervical spine. Keeping muscles flexible by performing daily stretching (it’s easy and only takes 2-3 minutes a day), improving posture, and learning how to prevent common neck problems from starting in the first place. Chiropractic also helps a lot with headaches as the most common types of headaches (tension type headaches and migraines) are affected by tight musculature at the base of the skull as well as muscles higher up in the neck. My goal with each of my patients is to locate and fix the problem at it’s source and educate my patients so they have long term correction of their neck pain. My goal isn’t simply to get you out of pain, it’s to keep you out of pain and to show you simple things you can do to live a happier healthier life.

What can I do to prevent neck pain?
Getting evaluated by a chiropractor before you develop a neck problem from occurring is the best way. Performing daily stretching helps avoid many neck conditions especially sprain and strain injuries. Correcting your posture and correcting ergonomics at work and at home is very helpful as well. Always remember to change positions throughout the day and a good mattress and pillow are very helpful as well.
